Brahms Lullaby

Johannes Brahms composed the melody for this familiar Lullaby in 1868. A number of lyrics have been set to his melody.

The original lyric was in German, and entitled Wiegenlied: Guten Abend, gute Nacht, (Op. 49, No. 4.)

In 1910, Australian pianist and composer Percy Grainger arranged the Wiegenlied as one of his "Free Settings of Favorite Melodies" for solo piano.

In more recent times, Aaron Neville recorded a version of this lullaby, with the lyrics "Lullaby, and good night; In the sky stars are bright; Close your eyes, start to yawn; Pleasant dreams until the dawn."
